CAROL SOKOLOFF
Change in the Weather

“…an intuitively gifted songwriter…”
— Kurt Elling, multiple Grammy Award-winning vocalist

Recorded in Nashville, the newly-released CD ‘Change in the Weather’ showcases the warm, expressive voice and finely-crafted original songs of singer-songwriter Carol Sokoloff. Often described as Norah Jones meets Ella Fitzgerald with the lyric sensibility of Joni Mitchell and Gordon Lightfoot, Carol writes songs that celebrate love, resilience, the changing seasons and our shared human experience. Her timeless melodies and sensitive lyrics bridge folk, pop, jazz and Ameri/Canadiana, to deliver both a classic and contemporary sound.

Raised in Toronto and now living on Vancouver Island (Victoria, BC, Canada) Carol was drawn to music at an early age, studying piano and singing 3-part harmony with her sisters, taking up guitar and songwriting in her teens. Later influences included the American Songbook composers, especially Harold Arlen (‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’) with whom she became close while producing a radio documentary for the CBC. There she also created theme songs for a network childrens’ program and for a Peabody Award-winning educational radio series which she wrote and produced.

Collaborating with acclaimed bassist Eli Beaird and a stellar 6-piece band, ‘Change in the Weather’ marks Carol’s return to folk roots from her debut jazz CD, ‘Let Go!’ As a published author
