The
recent popularity of the Sufi poets Rumi and Hafez has sparked an interest
in Sufi mysticism, both ancient and modern. This volume is the first in
a series of Reflections small books by Hidayat Inayat Khan
which offer short meditations based on Sufi teachings. Sufism is a universal
wisdom-philosophy honouring all religious traditions concerned
with the individuals relation-ship to self, humanity and the divine
nature. Reflections on the Art of Personality, presents short meditations
on the subject of the cultivation of the personality, upon which happiness
and success so often depends. Considering life as an artistic endeavour
in which the individual creates both self and destiny,
these teachings suggest a path towards the perfection of the personality,
known as The Art of Personality. Composer and Sufi teacher
Hidayat Inayat Khan offers his personal reflections on this art, based
on the writings of his father, the Indian Sufi mystic and musician Hazrat
Inayat Khan, founder of contemporary universal Sufism. These short meditations
on the nature of the personality offer a thoughtful distillation of mystical
teachings on the transformation of the self.
Hidayat Inayat Khan
is the leader and Pir-o-Murshid of the International Sufi Movement and
the son of its founder, Hazrat Inayat Khan, Indias modern mystic
and musician. A composer of symphonic music, Hidayat Inayat Khan has released
several CDs of vocal and symphonic compositions, blending his Eastern
& Western musical heritage. He is the author of Sufi Teachings:
Lectures from Lake OHara and The Inner School, both from
Ekstasis Editions. He lives in the Netherlands.
